Happy 4th

As we hang out with our family and friends I think it gets harder and harder to remember what this day is really about.  What was sacrificed for our country to be free.  The Declaration of Independence.  Below is the beginning of this:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

After this part, it lists facts about the Kind of Great Britain.  The thing that really gets me, after hundreds of years, all men/women are not created equal in eyes of society and the Government. What makes one person better than the next? Skin color? Wealth? No person in my eyes is better than another, unless, they show or prove to me that they complete idiots.  This country has come so far in so many ways yet we seem to be going backwards in some of the most important, Student loans for example, the Government, meaning, President Obama is finally going to put a stop at the rising interest rates, I personally want non disgruntle students to be the next generation of our country.  One thing our country is coming to terms with as far as equal rights, gays and lesbians can now marry in half the states, this is huge, when maybe 30 years ago blacks and whites were granted this.  Being a lesbian I’m proud to say that Minnesota is one of those states.  I don’t want to marry but I know that those little girls and boys who are finding out about their sexuality can actually dream about a marriage.  Equal pay for men and women, yeah, we’ve been fighting that for years and every President declares they will fight for it.  Why should women have to fight to get the same wage for the same job as a man?  We’re equal right?

Now as I have typed my fingers off and my daily RA flare in my right hand begins, I will leave you with this.
